Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'

Updated: Sep 2, 2021

I think Morgan Freeman said this in The Shawshank Redemption, could be wrong on that though. I think about this quote a lot on more of an extreme level. This is what I wrote a year ago when I first read it...

"A simple and well known saying, but what does it actually mean to me? You have 86,400 seconds in a day, what you do with that time is up to you. You can either keep up the destructive habits that will get you nowhere in life or you can get up and tackle the goals that will lead you to a better life. Use your time to your advantage. Dream big and work hard, you might never know the opportunities that will present itself, there is no reason why you shouldn’t take on new tasks and become a better person."

Now let me analyze what I thought this quote meant before and then tell you what I think it means now. When I was analyzing this quote last year I looked at it from a viewpoint that was relative to my own life. I basically said that life is too short to not live it to your fullest everyday.

Thinking about this quote in the present I believe the same philosophy applies. Every person, every where should be making conscience decisions to better their current state. The monumental decisions are the important ones. Doing something as seemingly crazy as deleting all social media for personal growth could be a decision that changes your life, who knows. Make that decision that derives so far from the path that people question your sanity, those are often the ones that build your character.
